2016 saw the release of the excellent Train to Busan and of course, its animated prequel, Seoul Station. The movie focused on the passengers of a train trying to survive during a zombie outbreak, whilst the prequel focused on various groups of people attempting to survive the outbreak when it first appeared in downtown Seoul.
Both movies and the upcoming sequel, which has been revealed to be named Peninsula, are directed by Sang-ho Yeon.
So far it looks as though the upcoming sequel will be getting a release in the summer of 2020 with rumours suggesting the premiere being August 12.
No dates for an international release just yet, but given the success of the first film, it probably won’t be much later hitting western shores.
The plot so far seems to be that of survivors attempting to escape from Korea in the wake of the zombie outbreak.
Train to Busan was a huge success with global ticket sales of almost $100 million against a budget of under $9 million and was well received by fans and critics alike, including us, so we’re certainly looking forward to a sequel and as soon as we hear more, we’ll be sure to share it with you.
