Movie News - The Grudge (2020). First Trailer Drops.

Updated: Nov 15, 2019

A few weeks ago, we reported on the latest in a long line of The Grudge remakes. I’m reasonably sure this is the 5th time this film has been redone. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, and I’m not even counting all the sequels and tie-ins.

Ghost House Pictures have today, released a trailer, giving us our first look at the reboot of a reboot of a reboot…

You all know the story by now: If someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage, a curse is born. This means anyone who dares to enter the cursed place of that person’s death is tormented for 90 minutes by a very pale woman, in need of a good conditioner, who crawls around on the floor making weird, throaty, gargling noises.

I know I sound more than a little jaded here. I’m actually a fan of these films. I even liked the first American remake starring Buffy. I’m just a little sceptical as to how many times this story needs to be retold.

What do we learn from the trailer?

Well, we already reported that Lin Shaye and John Cho were adding their weight to the cast and that wish as hard as I might, there would be no Takako Fuji, reprising her role as Kayako.

The film is directed by Nicolas Pesce, whose previous work includes The Eyes of My Mother (2016) and Piercing (2018). Obviously, with it being a Ghost House Pictures production, Sam Raimi is once again on board as a producer.

The story looks to be much the same as before. Person enters cursed house. Person ends up cursed. Ghosts. Creepy noises. Startling jump scares. Yada yada yada.

It appears that gone completely is the Japanese setting as everything in the trailer seems to take place in the USA. Although Kayako, according to IMDB is played by Asian actress, Junko Bailey so once again, I stand to be corrected.

The trailer has piqued my interest and I will undoubtedly flock to the cinema hoping to have the Willies put up me (in a non sexy way, of course).

In the meantime, should any further news develop, your humble reporter. i.e. me, will be on hand to fill you in.

Here is the trailer for your viewing pleasure…
